Born in London and raised in Hastings, Liane Carroll has been playing the piano since she was three. Her singing and piano playing have made her well known the around the world. Liane has been performing as a professional pianist and singer since the age of fifteen. She has toured and recorded with artists such as Gerry Rafferty, Ladysmith Black Mombasa and Paul McCartney.
"Without a doubt one of my all time favourites. She has a remarkable
delivery, powerful and soulful but at the same time she can sing a ballad to
make you cry. And a personality to die for (one of the most entertaining
performers we have here)."
Steve Rubie, 606 Jazz Club, London
Liane won the BEST VOCALIST and the BEST OF JAZZ Award at the BBC Jazz Awards 2005. She is the only person ever to win two awards in one year. In 2006 she won BEST VOCALIST at the Marstons Pedigree British Jazz Awards and in 2007 she was awarded best female vocalist at the first Ronnie Scotts Jazz Awards.
Liane has recorded three CDs on the Splash Point Records label: Billy No Mates (solo piano and vocals, 2003), Standard Issue (band recording with guest artists at Abbey Road, 2005) and Slow Down (solo piano and vocals, 2007 released 27th September '07). Feb '08 sees the release of her first DVD, Liane Live. It features the Liane Carroll Trio concert at Brecon Jazz Festival 2006,. Filmed by the BBC and introduced by Julian Joseph, it features the trio on sparkling form, with a special guest appearance by Ian Shaw. Bonus Feature: Broadcaster Helen Mayhew's interview of Liane in Liane’s home town (Hastings UK), with an impromptu performance of Three Sheets to the Wind. This DVD sees Liane at the peak of her powers, with her passion, musicality and emotional honesty at their pinnacle. She is spectacularly supported in this by her virtuoso bass player husband Roger Carey, and drummer supreme Mark Fletcher. And just when things couldn't get any better... she is joined by another BBC Jazz Award winner, singer Ian Shaw, for their rousing duet on "You've Got a Friend".
